JEFFREY CAMPBELL AND SEATTLE MUSIC MAN DJ BATTLE DANCER
Sometimes it can catch you off guard. Especially if you are at work, and well, supposed to be working. You log onto the www.jeffreycampbellshoes.com site and flashing images of JC GIRLS and a sexxy robot voice starts telling you to “work it, you better put it on, you better work it, work it Jeffrey.” The sexxy and synthed up voice resonates–as pulating beats continue to pound. This track, “Work it Jeffrey,” was written and delivered especially for the launch of our “addicted to shoes” themed site.
Seattle’s DJ Battlerdancer partnered with Ty McBride of Jeffrey Campbell to come up with something edgey, a little dirty and super appealing for the sites intro. Providing the vocals and the beats on the track—DJ Battle Dancer prepares you for the world of shoe addiction–the world of Jeffrey Campbell.
Recently, on a trip to NYC, Ty McBride caught up with DJ Battle Dancer AKA Matthew, and shared coffees in the lobby of the new ACE HOTEL NY–taking time to catch up on life, music, love and the art of being sexxy. Below are excerps from that conversation. Enjoy.

TMC: I love your DJ moniker…where did this derive from?
DJB: Before I was a DJ I made a name for myself by always being the first out on the dancefloor, tearing it up early, staying late. I got a repulation as being an intense dancer–a blogger friend dubbed me as BATTLEDANCER and it stuck.
TMC: My DJ name is DJ TONY DANZA…because I am the boss.
DJB: you are totally the boss.
TMC: If we were in Seattle on a Satureday night…where would you take us to get a full on dose of the cute kids?
DJB: HOUSE PARTIES! Lots of youth dancing, excitement. Seattle Party scene is now basically underground due to local governmental restictions–I would suggest we start at Pony or Cpt. Black’s for drinks and the 411 ont he nights hottest parties.
TMC: Okay, good to know…but where would we FIND YOU on a saturday night?
DJB: I like to stay focused artistically, if I’m not playing out at a club or bar I am probably painting, working on my cult, keeping it tribal.
TMC: Which five records are making you gag right now?
DJB: 1. Joost Van Bellen’s solo project.
2. Nite Jewels.
3. Astrud Gilberto and Stan Getz. I love bossa nova in my set.
4. Red Hous Painters
5. and so many more….
TMC: What was your motivation for the theme song of the JC site?
DJB: I like how JC focuses on being simple and sexxy. I see the JC girl as sophisticated–but one who knows how to get down to business. I wrote a song for her.
TMC: What blogs are you watching right now?
DJB: http://brennabrennaaa.livejournal.com
http://witfile.blogstop.com
http://www.thefader.com
TMC: What is your favorite thing about being a genius?
DJB: If you can be smart enough to learn from your mistakes and appreciate the things you have I think that’s smart enough.
TMC: In general, what is next for you?
DJB: I am working with my chamber folkgroup MESS KIT. We are going into the studio to cut a demo. After focusing on electronic music for ten years—it’s nice to shift my focus and pick up some instruments and song writing. I am working on completing my experimental hip hop album JuLa Vee, I work with her under the moniker IlL. S. You can find all my latest tracks at http://soundcloud.com/battledancer.com
