We have to admit, this was probably our album of the week a few weeks ago, since we began familiarizing ourselves with an advanced copy, but now that it’s out, we have to give it up for M83′s latest Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming. Sticking with synths and an ethereal aesthetic, M83′s Anthony Gonzalez gave us a little more bang for our buck with this amazing double album, that just might be his best offering yet.
Yeah, that’s a tough call to make when he boasts the creative genius behind both Before The Dawn Heals Us and Saturdays = Youth, but from the opening track “Intro” featuring the phenomenal Zola Jesus and in which Gonzalez does his best Phil Collins (that’s a compliment) to the slow-building, and aptly titled “Outro” this is surely Gonzalez’s most cohesive and ambitious work yet, and for that we must applaud. Our favorite track so far? It’s gotta be “Midnight City” – classic M83, given the pop-song treatment. In a perfect world, this would be #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 (it surely is in our hearts).
