from time-to-time sure, I complain a bit.

October 07 2008

It usually happens on Friday, or at the end of any particular day which ends in “Y.” I will be leaving the NYC Jeffrey Campbell office on 33rd and 7th—and I start to complain. Nestled just near Madison Square Garden, Penn Station and midtown tourist hysteria— the office is planted in a NYC Crazy-zone! From time to time I find myself ranting as I make my way to the 8th Ave E train–only two blocks away. MIDTOWN, in short, is not cute. Tourists crowd the streets, people with rolley bags are running to Penn Station–in general it’s a mess of a lot of NOT CUTEness all piled into a few urban blocks. So I walk. I focus on on my train…meanwhile complaining to myself.

Friday, I was leaving work at a reasonable hour–en route to a movie at Union Square. As I hit the streets I was smacked in the face with the craziness of Friday 5pm—people everywhere—and it wasn’t until one block later I saw this cute couple…making their way through the blandness of midtown Macy’s bags and H&M shoppers. It was like God himself had sent two cute people—to simply help my two block afternoon trek to the train…so cute—that I had to stop them for  quick snap shot!

And…as if all this cuteness wasn’t enough (in town from London….DUH..) God threw me another bone as I was about to descend the steps to the E train. I simply looked over my shoulder and there like the blossoming carnations that adorned her own head, was this little flower. She was dressed up GIRL. Her rabbit fur bomber as layered over her work clothes and topped off by about 1 dozen red carnations tied into her hair with rubberbands and bobby pins. I was like…”where are you going? You look amazing!!” She just looked at me plainly, like this is her day-to-day look and said “I am waiting for my man.” Snap and Snap. Thank you NYC for never failing me when I need a pick up.
