The Huffington post has just ran a blurb about the importance of gearing up for fall, and of course, this means….getting BOOT READY. With a nod to Frye boots in the classic department, the POST then turned to JC for some plaform and bootie magic. They selected four styles from SOLESTRUCK.com that are assured to spice up your life! Akira + Chictopia

The Akira and Chictopia contest came to a close at the end of the month, and today we finally sat down to mull over a few of our top picks. The winning shoe will be produced by Jeffrey Campbell and sold exclusively in the US by www.shopakira.com. We were so impressed with the entries—so many amazing concepts, designs, ideas, trends and loooks. While some of the entries were extreme, non-realistic production wise or too difficult to execute–many of them truly took the Jeffrey Campbell collection into mind, creating something beautiful and visually stuning. The contestants used one of the existing three base constructions to create something bold, marketable and realistic. We liked so many of the designs, and while the contest was judged on creativity and vision–we were after a shoe that also kept with our collection for Spring—while being strong enough to stand on its own two feet as a solid style!

Thank you CHICTOPIA and AKIRA for sponsoring this. Now, let’s get to picking…here are a few of our favorites….thoughts? We were drawn to shoes which read as well thought out, envisioned and created–not specifically shoes which were the best technically designed or manipulated on paper–however some were executed flawlessly. We received over 16 pages of entries–shoes ranging from the over the top avant garde pieces–all the way down to reworked basics. While all the entries presented something valid–we were searching for one shoe that could easily fit into our new collection–but again, one that had a voice all its own.

You can see all the entries by logging onto CHICTOPIA.com this contest blew our mind. And of course shop all the newest and freshest Jeffrey Campbell by logging onto Chicago’s most inspirational boutique www.shopakira.com. The above designs were just a few that caught our eye for either fabrication, shape, concept or cohesion. In total, there were about 20 styles we DIED for, making the selection process a difficult one! Stay tuned as we announce the winner, and we will keep you posted as we go into production on the winning shoe. The winning shoe should be available at AKIRA in January 2011.
