WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS GOES ON OUR BLOG: PART 1

The JC Team from around the world made the trek to scorching Las Vegas this week for the biggest trade-show of the season, Pool. For anyone who has ever been to one of our shows, you know there is never a dull moment. We met some amazing new friends (shot out to UNIF, Autre Magazine, and Joyrich!) and saw some of our old besties (Solestruck, Wasteland, Wildfox, Need Supply, NastyGal, Trash and Vaudeville, Free People, Motel, Virgo etc. etc. etc.). Our men’s designer even won big at the slots (Okay, it was at the Las Vegas airport slots, but he won nonetheless)! In between all the madness, we were able to snap a few pics of some of our favorite looks we saw come through the Mandalay Bay convention center. We were so inspired by the amazing ensembles that walked by, and so honored that many of them were accompanied by JC shoes! There were so many great looks, we decided to split them up in two posts, so stay tuned for Part 2 coming tomorrow!

MEET THE DESIGNER: AIMEE FROM GARNETT JEWELRY

If you were wondering where the fab jewelry from our DOWNTOWN GIRL look book came from, we were lucky enough to borrow it from our good friend Aimee Munford, designer and owner of GARNETT JEWLERY. Last week we caught up with Aimee and asked her a few questions about what inspires her, how she got started in the industry, and any advice she would give to anyone out there looking to break in to one of the coolest areas of the fashion world.

1. How did you get started in jewelry?

I have always needed to have a creative outlet. I was a photography major in college, but have also dabbled in painting, printmaking, sculpture and fiber arts and making jewelry just came about naturally out of a desire to create something unique and original.

2. What inspires you?

I find inspiration all around me in color, and nature and the creative energy of other artists. I am never at a loss for inspiration. I really feel inspiration is all in how one looks at things and you just need to be open to seeing things in your own way; in a different unconventional light.

3. Who are your favorite designers?

My favorite designers are the ones who create to the beat of their own drum-one’s who go their own path. Authenticity is a must!

4. What’s on your iPod?

Bob Marley (always Bob Marley), K’naan, Stevie Wonder, Palace Music , Neil Young, Stereolab, Blonde Redhead

5. Uptown Girl or Downtown Girl?

Duh-Downtown Girl

6. What advice would you give to someone who wants to break into the industry?

My advice to anyone starting out trying to build their own business is to be patient and stick with it-It’s not going to happen overnight. Reach out to other people in your industry who you respect and trust and utilize all your resources. And don’t forget to pay it forward when you make it big.

The closest I get to 14th street is when I take the L to Williamsburg. I frequent Santos Party House, Babey Cakes bakery, Pixie Market, and any bodega in alphabet city. I save up for Wang and Chloe for OC instead of paying for cabs(or eating). I’ve been bringing back the 90s since 2005 (GRUNGE is my middle name) I am a downtown girl….What are you?

NEW ARRIVALS AT SOLESTRUCK

We hope everybody had a fun and safe 4th of July! We’re back in the New York showroom today, and while we thoroughly enjoyed the festivities of the holiday weekend, we’re super excited to see the new arrivals page over at SOLESTRUCK filled with some of our favorite new styles to carry us through the rest of the summer. As you’ve probably noticed from our GIRLS WE HATED IN HIGH SCHOOL collection, we have a bit of an affinity for Navajo prints, so clearly we’re obsessed with the REVOLVER in Paprika tribal print. We love a shoe that’s perfect both in summer and fall! Next up is the ZIP 2 in red. We think the layered buckled straps combined with the vibrant red color are the perfect combination to take any look to the next level. Hey guys!

Thanks so much for coming out to LF SOHO last night for our Girls We Hated In High School launch party!!! We had such a blast and hope you all did too!! The turn out was great, and thanks to our giveaway raffle, many of you were able to walk away with gifts in hand! I mean… with a refreshing lemonade stand, our very own hot dog stand, gift bags made from vintage scarves, and everything being decked out in red, white & blue how could things NOT go fantastically??

Hopefully this will be the first of many JC x LF events to come!! Make sure to check the blog for news for upcoming celebrations such as this one. Who knows…if you harass the LF closest to you just enough…you might be able to convince them to host a party as well!
