Small Town Hero….Volume Two–MONTANA

November 06 2008

As previously blogged, we here at the JC love our boutique accounts—TRUE MAVERICKS–who bring fashion to the streets of their towns, item by item, serving up big city looks inside their city limits. For this issue of SMALL TOWN HERO—We go to Montana—get ready for Betty’s Divine. Longtime (love you longtime!!) Jeffrey Campbell clients, Betty’s Divine brings to Missoula just what it needs, a little “divine.” Jeffrey Campbell asked the questions…and the owners answered!

JC: WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT HAVING A STORE IN A SMALL CITY?
BD: Seeing our merch EVERYWHERE. Setting trends with our weird buying habits. Really knowing our customers and buying for THEM!
JC: WHICH IS WORSE…CROCS OR UGGGGGS?
BD: We can’t stand behind either shoe style, neither do we trust the opinions or fashion ways of wearers of such dastardly footwear. HOWEVER: Old people kinda look cute when wearing crocs AND since we do live in the cold Northern regions, Uggs do serve a purpose…they’re warm and soft and slipper-like on cold blustery days. Stuffing your sweaty manicured feet into a pair on a hot day in LA does not serve a purpose. I suppose you could call us practical fashionistas.
JC: WHO DESCRIBES YOU STORE…MADONNA OR MYLEY?
BD: Madonna by a landslide. We embrace all faces of Madge’s steez wrapped up in one warm and fuzzy store: Desperately-seeking lacey material girl, classic pin up blonde bombeshell,  health conscious yogini extradorniarre with beautifully toned arms, socially conscious latina powerhouse, spirtual explorer and
dance queen, hello!
JC: WHO IF ANY ARE THE CURRENT BETTY DIVINE CELEBRITY CRUSHES!?
BD: Cher. Post-baby Nicole Richie. Lisa Bonet, then and now. Maggie Gyllenhaal. Jemaine from Flight of The Conchords.
JC: WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE LABELS, BRAND INSPIRATIONS AND CLIENT FAVORITES?
BD: Well, uh, Jeffery Campbell…InSight, Prairie Underground, Miz Mooz, Cheap Monday, Alternative, small regional designers keepin’ it real.

SPLISH SPLASH–WET and WILD

November 03 2008

Usually known for our wild prints and over the top patterns for our annual “Rain” collection–Jeffrey Campbell kept it simple and chic this season on the rain style ENGINEER. Beautifully muted colors and weatherproof rubber, team up with classic moto-boot styling to make this a FW/0809 STAPLE.  Available in basic black of course–but shown here with a little punch in grey and hunter green. At the first sight of droplets tuck your jeans into these fabric lined bad boys and hit the streets running. Chances are you you’ll have to avoid more compliments than puddles!! Work the Look girl…wet and wild!!

You can find style ENGINEER at www.shopbop.com, however, hurry as they have a tendency to sell through the Jeffrey Campbell like, well, water.

**THE FOLLOWING IN AN EXCERP REC’D FROM TRACEY McBALISON FROM MADSION–WHICH WAS SENT TO THE JEFFREY CAMPBELL INFO EMAIL ADDRESS!! WE LOVE FAN MAIL! THANKS TRACEY

“We all see the lists—they gaze at us at check out stands. “40 key looks you MUST have for fall!!” or “Learn to Layer to create more looks!” Usually I disregard all the “seasonal must haves and must nots,” but this season I paid careful and close attention to all the discussion over booties—as I am in the market for a new pair of show-stopping booties. I made a list of everything the magazines said I couldn’t leave my home without–and then compared it to what I needed to match, jeans, work attire, and dresses. I wanted something to pair with tights, but also to beef up some boring work outfits. I needed a little edge.

I wanted the following:

+something grey. (although I always end-up opting for black!!)

+something platformy.

+a lace up.

+something comfy–but forward. fast—but not too cray.

I set out on a mission shopping and seeking that was quickly answered, or dare I say “clickly answered” when i found myself staring eye-to-eyelet with my sole-mate on www.shopbop.com. As I am not an avid online shoe buyer, I was hesitant—but I trusted, I  leapt–and boy am I glad I did. This is not my frist pair of Jeffrey Campbells—but it is the first pair I have owned in two colors!! The METTE PLATFORM BOOTY is essential to my everyday look and style—and when I say I could run a race in them…I mean it.”

The Jeffrey Campbell METTE has just hit retail. You can find this essential piece in black and grey by surfing your way to shopbop.com and following the links to the Jeffrey Campbell collection. Enjoy.

Seen today, on Broadway…oh yeah!

October 23 2008

Normally, as I trek down Broadway, I am either:

A. Late.

B. On my cell.

C. Late and on my cell, calling my meeting to say I am ten minutes behind schedule.

D. Shopping. Which makes me late.

Today, as I walked from Dean and Deluca, (where I ate standing up at the mini-bar with several other Manhattanites and about ten Swedish shoppers) I made my way to an appointment near B’way and Grand. It was quite cold for this time of year–and I kept my head bowed down to concentrate on my urgent texting and to avoid the now chilly temperatures. As I make this trek quite often, I know the stores, the earring selling street vendors, the guy who sells hot nuts, the guy who gives out haircut flyers, Etc. And, as per usual I have to walk past the always bustling STEVE MADDEN store. Techno blares as girls from far away places look at giant wedges and lots of things covered in patent.

Today, as I brushed passed the SM store, again eyes to the concrete, something caught my eye—then made me smile. There propped up against the window of the Madden store was a hot lady wearing a JEFFREY CAMPBELL moc. (The Jeffrey Campbell “LOVE BEADS.”)

I don’t think I have ever been so happy standing in front of a Steve Madden Display window, as I was today. The two ladies, in town for fun, said they got the shoes from Milwaukee. She Purchased her purple suede flat at FRED BOUTIQUE, which carries tons of Jeffrey Campbell. As I snapped their photos, we laughed about the background–and secretly I was the happiest I had been all day. Say Cheese and snap!!

(*as my day continued I saw LOVE BEADS at LF on Spring too for NY shoppers!)
