As your Shadow crosses mine… Every time we launch a campaign, there’s one shoe that’s just a little bit crazier than the rest. Let’s face it, we love them all and we could never actually choose a favorite, but this shoe is the one you definitely notice first. Leather and spikes galore. The perfect amount of coverage. One of our favorite styles for Spring ‘11 is the AMANDA-2, available now in black at STRUT OF NY or nude at EILATAN. It’s basic enough to go with about anything, but has enough of an edge to take your look to the next level. We love the curved heel, and the diamond cut-out, and it’s easily become our go-to going out shoe. Another Amanda we’re obsessed with is Amanda Woodward aka Heather Locklear from Melrose Place. We recently revisited the entire original 1992-1999 series on NetFlix instant-watch, and we highly recommend you do the same! I mean, the fashion alone… But if Amanda isn’t the heart and soul of the show, she’s definitely the most lovable power beyotch in LA who always holds it down, stands up for herself and tells it like it is. None of the Melrose men could resist her, and we’re not questioning it either! So here are our favorite Amanda’s in all their glory… Now we didn’t exactly name the AMANDA-2 after Amanda Woodward, but we could definitely see a 90s Heather Locklear moment happening with this shoe!
Red carpet season has officially begun, with the GOLDEN GLOBES last Sunday. With the GRAMMYS, SCREEN ACTOR’S GUILD AWARDS, and OSCARS not very far off, we know we’ll be seeing tons of major looks coming down the red carpet, and we’re excited to tell you which ones we loved the most. Our picks for best dressed at the GGs all have one thing in common: each best dressed star heavily played to their personal style strengths, and rocked looks that only they could get away with… at least get away with as well as they did.
ANGELINA JOLIE in ATELIER VERSACE. Everything about Angelina’s look is perfect. Not only does this Atelier Versace gown fit her personal style so well, it’s completely appropriate for an event like the Golden Globes, which is the biggest “party” award show of the season. We love the white satin against hints of dramatic red, and were literally breathless when we saw her step onto the carpet.
MICHELLE WILLIAMS in JASON WU. The thing about this Jason Wu dress is that on anyone else it may have been a disaster at an award show, but it’s absolutely perfect on Michelle. In our opinion she really does no wrong when it comes to the red carpet and have loved all of her eye-catching looks over the years. This exemplifies her personal style, and also looks super comfy, without being sloppy.
TILDA SWINTON in HAIDER ACKERMANN. Tilda Swinton always does her own thing. The Oscar winner does not conform to any red carpet norms, and she’s better for it. What sets her apart from others with the same mentality, is that Tilda knows fashion. She knows designers, and she has amazing taste and refinery when it comes to picking out a red carpet look. She continues to do no wrong by us.
NICOLE RICHIE in JULIAN MACDONALD. We’ve obviously loved Nicole Richie’s style for years. Ever since her transformation to style icon season 3 of THE SIMPLE LIFE, Nicole has continued to wow in candid paparazzi pics and on red carpets alike. This Julian MacDonald look isn’t quite as amazing as her REEM ACRA look from the OSCARS in 2010, but few things have competed with that in the subsequent 2 years since. If that look was an A+, this gorgeous Golden Globes look gets a solid A.
CHARLIZE THERON in CHRISTIAN DIOR COUTURE. J’adore Dior! Can you say fairy princess? Charlize Theron always looks stunning, but talk about playing to your strengths! No one. We repeat NO ONE else could pull this off on the red carpet as effortlessly and flawlessly as Charlize does. Now excuse us while we watch her Dior commericals on youtube and cry into a bucket of Ben & Jerry’s for the rest of the day!
REESE WITHERSPOON in ZAC POSEN. We usually hate this style of dress. We usually hate when people wear red on the red carpet. And Zac Posen would not be our go-to designer for a red carpet look. For some reason though, it’s ALL working here for Reese. If Charlize Theron is the fairy princess, Reese is the real-life Barbie Doll. The Oscar winner looked absolutely stunning on Sunday evening.
ROONEY MARA in NINA RICCI. Of course we needed to include a fashion-goth moment. And again this dress would not have worked on any other starlet, than THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO star, Rooney Mara. The black tulle on the top half compliments the subtle detailing of the gown perfectly, and her jet black pulled back hair off-sets the styling in all the right ways.
JESSICA CHASTAIN in GIVENCHY. When an actress wears Givenchy on the red carpet, a light-bulb goes off in our heads. “She gets it.” When Cate Blanchett wore Givenchy to the OSCARS last year, the vote was split (obviously we voted with a resounding YES), but nonetheless we loved that she took the risk and embraced the fashion, rather than join the ranks of typical red carpet fair. So when one of our favorite new actresses, Jessica Chastain, showed up to the Globes in Givenchy this year, our hearts were a flutter. Complete with tall hair – the perfect compliment – THE HELP and TREE OF LIFE star looked elegant and timeless.
