EMILY LUPTON: C’est Moi. C’est Toi. C’est Nous Ensemble.

February 08 2010

Emily Lupton–contest winner on the women’s side from the www.lookbook.nu contest and collabo with www.needsupply.com is a style guru in her own right. The 17 year old English fashion maven caught our attention with her contest entry— alot of her looks had vintage inspirtaions and also mixed and matched l patterns and eras, styled to the top and an eye for the eccentric–we used her inspirations to create a shoe named after and inspired by her. The C’est Moi. This shoe is being sold exclusively in the US by www.needsupply.com. Emily will be awarded the first pair!

Emily and Ty McBride from Jeffrey Campbell’s NYC office recently fought through mutually busy schedules for a quick email Q&A about Emily’s take on fashion, vintage, life and inspiration. We thank her for her submission to the contest and think that the shoe we created–based off of her inspiring fashions—is set to be one of our biggest sellers for spring 2010. It is available for preorder now and will deliver in 3 weeks.

HOW WOULD YOU BEST DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE?
Ooh, i’m not sure. I really love vintage although i don’t own nearly enough. I would say that i’m kinda eclectic, my style changes day to day
WHO ARE YOUR STYLE ICONS?

I have so many, the obvious ones, like, Audrey Hepburn, Alexa Chung and Daisy Lowe, Zooey Deschanel (Although i slightly prefer Summer Finn’s wardrobe, but she is fictional) for example. But i am more inspired my lesser known people, some of Laura Marling’s clothes are cute, sometimes Sherri DuPree, Kathryn Prescott (Again i prefer Emily Fitches clothes)
WHAT CURRENT TREND DO YOU THINK IS A NIGHTMARE:

I’ve never been keen on the head-toe denim look, like on the S/S Chloe, House of Holland, and Ralph Lauren shows.
I love the use of colour in the S/S shows (Valentino, Dior and Givenchy couture)  , but i feel that when this filters through, many girls who attempt to try it out may be walking around looking quite like they’re in drag.

WHAT DO YOU THINK IS MORE IMPORTANT STYLE OR FASHION?

Style definitely, you can’t just throw on the seasons latest colours and cuts and look great, you have to know what makes you look good. Also good style is timeless.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO BE SO UNIQUE IN TERMS OF FASHION?

I would say that my mood most influences what i wear, whether i want something comfy, or a pretty dress, or skinny jeans. And also the weather, if its a really sunny day then i will want to wear a pretty dress and pale floras, but if its a bit grey i will stick do autumnal colours and probably lots of layers.

Also lots of pictures i see inspire me, fashion advertisements, peoples blog photographs, illustrations i see. And films, e.g. 500 days of summer, An Education, i love old black and white films, like some like it hot, and Audrey Hepburn films, and period dramas to an extent, although unfortunately, i don’t own and dresses half as beautiful as those from Pride and Prejudice (my all time favorite film) and the duchess, but the colours and detail filter through into what i buy/make.

IN TEN WORDS OR LESS DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE:

Playful, Eclectic, Colourfull, Vintage, Feminine, Pretty dresses, Floaty skirts, Comfortable.
